The
Arab Club
for Information
A typical
institution
in the Age
of Information
When
we
took
the
initiative
to
found
the
Arab
Club
for
Information
in
October
1998,
no
one
expected
that
this
new
frame
will
be
able,
in
a
relatively
short
time
to
achieve
what
it
had
achieved,
and
open
new
horizons
for
joint
Arab
work
in
the
field
of
information
sciences
and
technology.
To
understand
the
principles
that
led
to
the
success
we
achieved,
we
point
to
the
following: First:
we
exaggerate
not
if
we
are
to
say
that,
through
a
well
known
experience
in
the
field
of
information,
we
were
the
first
to
comprehend
the
facts
of
the
age,
where
information
is
the
key
word
we
also
conceived
that
the
prevailing
organizational
structure
cannot
actively
transact
with
the
mechanism
of
the
age
of
information
due
to
its
hierarchical
structure
and
intense
centralization
to
follow
a
more
pluralism
structure,
able
to
respond
quickly,
effectively
and
timely,
as
the
age
requires.
Second
:we
were
able
to
develop
the
concept
of
information
to
harmonize
it
with
our
needs,
surrounding
circumstances
and
the
huge
flow
of
information
imposed
on
us.
Before,
this
concept
was
isolated
and
merely
used
by
a
small
group
of
specialists
who
were
not
able
to
transfer
the
"Information
Culture"
into
a
popular
culture
necessary
for
a
large
group
of
technicians
and
socialists.
It
is
obvious
that
information,
the
feature
of
the
age
is
not
just
synonym
for
those
working
in
the
field
of
library.
Nowadays,
this
modern
concept
refers
to
a
complete
system
starting
from
storing
and
preserving
them
to
circulation,
and
ending
with
the
use
and
reproduction
of
information.
A
read
into
the
new
concept,
we
find
that
all
producing
sectors
of
society,
material
or
intellectual
become
part
of
this
nation.
For
all
the
above
mentioned,
we
expanded
our
horizons
from
the
mere
limited
view
that
has
for
long
restricted
the
work
of
our
institutions
and
capacities.
Third
:
we
were
able
to
develop
the
mechanism
of
cooperation
and
coordination
with
Arab
institutions
working
in
the
field
of
information,
by
forming
cooperation
between
the
institution
and
Arabcin,
or
the
institutions
among
themselves.
This
point
is
fundamental,
in
the
work
of
the
club,
as
indicated
in
Arabcin's
aims
and
objectives.
The
most
important
initiative
that
enhanced
this
cooperation
is
the
call
for
Arab
Document
Day,
marking
an
annual
celebration
for
Arab
documents
and
men
of
information.
This
helped
to
strengthen
links
among
Arab
institutions
in
all
the
Arab
countries.
Cooperation
and
coordination
are
the
main
pillars
of
the
age
of
information
that
relies
on
exchange
of
experiences,
and
data
intensifying
efforts
and
collecting
it
for
definite
targets.
Fourth
:
the
general
or
specific
meaning
of
dialogue,
and
as
used
by
individuals,
groups,
nations
or
cultures,
has
formed
through
the
whole
history
of
humanity,
a
necessary
feature
for
development
and
progress.
Therefore,
Arabcin
has
adopted
this
thesis
in
a
scientific
way,
and
embodied
it
through
its
publications
and
programs
:
"Areen
Magazine
-
electronic
publishing
via
Arabcin
web).
In
addition
to
Arabic,
Arabcin
uses
three
other
languages;
English,
French
and
Spanish,
as
a
mean
for
actively
opening
on
world
cultures.
Through
the
above-mentioned
activities,
Arabcin
helps
in
transferring
the
real
picture
of
Arab
civilization,
and
the
ability
and
vivification
of
Arabs
in
all
fields
of
sciences
and
knowledge
to
others
who
have
been
unfortunately
exhausted
with
distorted
and
falsified
pictures
concerning
our
history
and
civilization.
It
is
worth-mentioning
here
the
high
level
of
cooperation
concluded
with
L'institut
du
Monde
Arabe
-
Paris,
and
the
European
Information
Club
-
Venice
Club.
Currently,
Arabcin
is
in
the
process
of
concluding
new
agreements
with
several
well-known
international
institutions,
with
good
scientific
and
cultural
reputation.
The
above
mentioned
points
that
we
have
briefed
on,
together
with
the
capacity
and
will
shown
by
our
staff,
forms
the
main
basis
of
success
that
Arabcin
has
achieved
and
goes
on
to
achieve
everyday.
We
also
believe
that
Arabcin
contains
the
main
ingredients
of
a
typical
institution
that
belongs
to
the
age
of
information
society.
