THE
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
FOR HERITAGE
PROTECTION CALLS FOR
THE PRESERVATION OF
HISTORICAL PALESTINIAN
MONUMENTS
In
December 2001, and
under the patronage
of UNESCO, the international
conference for heritage
protection was held
and lasted for ten
days in Helsinki.
Conferees called
for preserving the
historical monuments
in Al Quds, against
all the Israeli
aggressive attempts
that aim to sublate
its Arabic identity.
In addition to the
serious transgressions
against the Palestinian
Arab heritage, which
actually represents
a brick in
the
construction of
the Islamic-Arabic
civilization, as
long as its roots
spreads backwards
in the early days
of history.
Undoubtedly, the
written Palestinian
heritage stands
as an example
of intellectual
and cognitive
activity that
has to be carefully
examined, in order
to find connection
in the Islamic
civilization and
to participate
in the whole human
civilization progress.
Furthermore, providing
evidences that
are able to assist
in the understanding
of realities. This
can only be achieved
by returning to
the essences through
profound studying
and exploration
of this heritage. As
a matter of fact,
nowadays we hear
prejudiced sides
that glorify the
genius of the
Jews. Moreover,
they claim Israel
as a part of a
great ancient
civilization,
while on the other
hand; we witness
a Palestinian
heritage that
is vulnerable
to despoliation,
deterioration,
and waste, in
addition to the
danger that could
violate its scientific
& historical
value. For
instance, in Al
Quds there is
a written heritage
that belongs to
the era of AYOBIAN
State, which strongly
supported schools,
mosques, churches,
translations &
writing movement.
By then the year
1147 witnessed
the establishment
of the first library
in Palestine.
Moreover, at the
beginnings of
the 18th century,
many libraries
were established
as they were presented
in the index titles
discovered in
Palestine, such
as manuscripts
of AL-AHMADI library
index 1781, manuscripts
of Islamic library
index in YAFA
great mosque 1812,
and the index
of AL- KHALIDIA
library in Al
Quds 1900, IBRAHIMI
sanctum manuscripts
index Hebron,
in addition to
several family
libraries that
spread at the
early years of
the 20th century.
Finally, regardless
of the aggressive
Israeli attempts
to efface facts,
the Palestinian
written heritage
will survive;
remain fixed and
solid in the Islamic
- Arabic civilization.
Always and forever
it will be at
the service of
national issues.
This can only
be achieved through
uncovering historical
facts, and providing
scientific visions,
which are able
to enhance the
Arab Palestinian
right to live
in peace and secure
in their homeland.
And to refute
the allegations
broadcasted by
Israeli propaganda
channels claiming
Palestine as their
Promised Land.
