National Center for Documentation
Of
Cultural and Natural Heritage CULTNAT

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has incorporated in its program the creation of a "National Center of Cultural and Natural Heritage", as a part of the National Project of Technology Renaissance of Egypt that was declared by Hosny Mubarak.
On the other hand, there is an increasing need to take measures towards the documentation and preservation of this unique heritage.
The Objectives of the Center:
:: Documentation of the Egyptian cultural heritage with both its aspect: tangible and
    intangible.
:: Documentation of the Egyptian natural heritage that includes the natural reserves as well     as the natural areas not yet inscribed under environmental preservation.
:: Implementation of a national plan to execute this documentation program using the latest     information technology in collaboration with the national and international specialized     organizations.
:: Building awareness about this heritage using all available publishing media: electronic     and physical.
:: Training of professionals in the field of preservation and documentation of cultural and
    natural heritage.

The Natural Heritage:
The documentation of Egypt's natural heritage involves the collection of all data available on the diverse habitats and their components.
The project aims at the identification of the natural heritage components under threat of extinction, or the ones that are rare or endangered.

The musical heritage Program:
CULTNAT aims at providing a better understanding of both our musical heritage and theatre. This can be achieved by firstly, documenting it in a thorough database and secondly, classifying and analyzing it. Such database will assist the music educational process in institutes and musical establishments.

The Egyptian Folklore:
CULTNAT is engaging in the task of documenting traditions of daily life that historically shape the Egyptian folklore. The systematic approach adopted in the database compilation process aims at building up the most comprehensive and inclusive library of scientific and audiovisual material.

Cairo's architectural Heritage:
Cairo, the capital of Egypt, offers a vast array of architectural styles combining European manifestations merged with local influences. The project benefits thoroughly from the use of a geographic information system that enables the user to browse the database and at the same time to locate historic buildings on a modern map of Cairo.
