Second
General Assembly
of (Arabcin)
Invitation for
Dialogue and
Vivacity of
The Club's Activities
The
City of
Damascus
has embraced,
on the 17th
of October
2001, the
activities
of the second
general
assembly
of the Arab
Club for
Information
(Arabcin),
which was
convened
with a tint
of responsibility
and sincerity,
for activating
the role
of information
in building
Arab Society.
The
convening
of this
assembly
coincided
with the
celebration
of Arab
Document
Day; it
incarnates
the ideas
and objectives
adopted
by (Arabcin),
and invites
all institutions
working
in the fields
of information,
libraries
and documentation
for cooperation
to achieve
them.
Arabcin
aspired
since a
long time
ago to consecrate
the 17th
day of October
as the Arab
Document
Day, to
be celebrated
by all Arab
documentalists.
It also
intended
to make
this day
an occasion
for creative
cooperation
between
Arab Documentalists,
in order
to substantiate
their prospective
dims and
objectives.
This
is exactly
what was
done in
the 2nd
assembly
of Arabcin,
for it turned
to be a
workshop
aiming at
lancing
itself to
a more enlightened
horizons
of creative
cooperation,
for updating
information,
and facing
the challenges.
This can
be achieved
only by
hard working,
and the
sincere
faith in
the importance
of information
and the
necessity
of prompt
and easy
accessibility
by a greater
number of
users, that
will invest
them in
the best
way, with
a view of
reaching
a brighter
future,
and to communicate
with our
Arab heritage
for reinstating
our luminosity.
The
agenda included
a
bunch of
subjects,
that were
fully discussed,
notably
a comprehensive
survey of
what had
been achieved
since 25.10.1998,
the establishing
date, in
the organizational,
information
or the Club's
activities
in the training
and rehabilitation
of the manpower,
through
courses,
symposia,
workshops,
or the establishment
of other
entities
related
to the club,
such as
Arab Studies
and Research
Center;
Arab Biographical
Center;
Arab Information
Institute
in addition
to the Arab
Institution
for
ICT.
Nonetheless,
the most
important
of them
all was
Arabcin's
documentation
efforts,
along with
the resulting
titles,
preceded
by Arab
unanimous
agreement
to adopt
the date
of (17.10)
a day for
Arab document,
the thing
which necessitates
a serious
work drift
on all levels;
then the
Club drew
its future
work- plan.
These were
some of
the main
titles and
points,
included
in the agenda,
where the
discussion
thereof
enriched
the prospective
objectives
of the club's
activity
as a scientific
institute
celebrating
its 3rd
Christmas,
which comprised
more than
(110) institutes
and centers,
operating
in the realms
of information,
documentation
and libraries,
from different
Arab countries.
It also
drew the
future work-
plan of
Arabcin,
depending
upon the
present
working
phase, with
its full
technical
and scientific
requirements
on all levels.
Notably,
that the
assembly
concluded
with the
participation
of members
of the executive
office,
and representatives
of the (13)
Arab member
states,
looking
forward
to make
sincere
efforts
towards
the achievement
of competitive
and productive
Arab database
society,
specially
where we
undergo
a rushing
data era;
and those
who lack
data will
be kept
in the cold.
