"Qandeel and Al-Azb departed
following an active fruitful life"

 
 

Mr. Yousif Qandeel, one of the founders of the Arab Information Club (Arabcin), member of the executive office, and head of the Jordanian library Society since 1971, departed on 22-6-2001, following an active fruitful span of life, after a road accident that ended his and his fellow's lives, while on their way to Amman from Damascus, where they participated in the activities of the eighth symposium of library organizations in Damascus.

With the departure of Yousif Qandeel, the Jordanian and Arab Library activity, as a whole, lost one of the most important subscribers. Since the late contributed actively in the progress of Arab library movement, through his active participation in Symposiums, scientific ad hoc conferences, along with ad hoc training courses inside and outside Jordan. He kept on pushing the wheel of progress forward, in cooperation with Arab library elite, and campaign Dr. Issa AL-Azab, one of these elite, who spent his whole life span among books, manuscripts, Arab archive offices, and university halls. In other words, he was one of the prominent a librarian, who actively existed in seminars, symposiums, and library and information scientific courses. He was also a successful author and administrator in this field who was appointed to uphold the assignment of the executive Director of (Arabcin) beside his other administrative tasks. It is note-worthy to point out that the departure of Mr. Yousif Qandeel and Dr. Issa Al Azab has deeply affected (Arabcin) and other institutes working in the realm of information and libraries. The Jordanian library society in particular had greatly lost the efforts of two of library movement activists. Their departure had certainly left a large vacuum in the Arab library family.

The Late Yousif Dakhl Alla Qandeel :
Date and place of birth : Al Dwayemeh /Hebron/ Palestine 15-12-1943
Nationality : Jordanian.

- Librarian at the Educational Development Center, UNESCO 1975 - 1982
- Librarian - Technical Documentation/ Arab Minerals Company 1982 - 2001.
- Numerous essays, papers and contributions in symposiums and courses, along with participation in the composition of numerous books in the field of Library and Information Science).
- Participated in the preparation of numerous T.V & radio programs on books, libraries, and readings, in addition to his writings in several Arab specialized periodicals.

Practical Activities :
- Member of the Jordanian library society from 1971, administrative and chairman for several terms.
- Constituent member, Arab library and information Union 1986, vice-chairman, 1st executive office 1986-1989.
- Constituent member of (Arabcin), member of executive office since its establishment in 1998.
- Chairman of (Arabcin) Jordan.
- D.G., who's who (Arabcin).
- Editor in chief, Library Message magazine, and editor, Iraqi Library and Information Magazine.
- Constituent member of the Library Societies in Al-Shaam provinces.
- Member of Arab Document Office.

Late Dr. Issa Mohamad Abdul Salam Al-Azab
Date & place of birth : Amman/ Jordan/ 1952.
Nationality : Jordanian.
High Diploma in Library and Information Sciences, Jordanian University 1995.

Expertise & Intellectual layout:
- Acted as administrative director, Jordanian Library Society since 1991, till death.
- Participated in numerous symposiums, conferences and courses.
- Profuse essays, researches, political and professional papers in library science.
- Editor in chief, the Library Message Magazine, issued by the Jordanian Library Organization.

Activities and practices:
- One of the leading members at the Arab Club for Information.
- Editing member of Nidaa Ul-watan magazine.
- Lately assigned to act as executive director of (Arabcin) Jordan.
