"Qandeel
and Al-Azb departed
following an active fruitful
life"
Mr.
Yousif Qandeel,
one of the founders
of the Arab Information
Club (Arabcin), member
of the executive office,
and head of the Jordanian
library Society since
1971, departed on 22-6-2001,
following an active
fruitful span of life,
after a road accident
that ended his and his
fellow's lives, while
on their way to Amman
from Damascus, where
they participated in
the activities of the
eighth symposium of
library organizations
in Damascus.
With
the departure of Yousif
Qandeel, the Jordanian
and Arab Library activity,
as a whole, lost one
of the most important
subscribers. Since the
late contributed actively
in the progress of Arab
library movement, through
his active participation
in Symposiums, scientific
ad hoc conferences,
along with ad hoc training
courses inside and outside
Jordan. He kept on pushing
the wheel of progress
forward, in cooperation
with Arab library elite,
and campaign Dr. Issa
AL-Azab, one of these
elite, who spent his
whole life span among
books, manuscripts,
Arab archive offices,
and university halls.
In other words, he was
one of the prominent
a librarian, who actively
existed in seminars,
symposiums, and library
and information scientific
courses. He was also
a successful author
and administrator in
this field who was appointed
to uphold the assignment
of the executive Director
of (Arabcin) beside
his other administrative
tasks. It is note-worthy
to point out that the
departure of Mr. Yousif
Qandeel and Dr. Issa
Al Azab has deeply affected
(Arabcin) and other
institutes working in
the realm of information
and libraries. The Jordanian
library society in particular
had greatly lost the
efforts of two of library
movement activists.
Their departure had
certainly left a large
vacuum in the Arab library
family.
