occupied Palestine undergoes

danger of annihilation.
Besides, occupation
forces, whether in old
times: Tartars, Mugols,
Crusaders or the modern
Israeli occupation which
exist since nearly half
a century ago, all have
hindered the revival
and development of publication
and writing in Palestine.

Abstract:
The research seeks to
highlighten the phenomenon
of books and libraryÕs
endowments in Beit Al-Maqdis
during the Otttoman
era, as a civilized
aspect sought by the
city people to serve
students and men of
letters, specially at
a time where they began
to discern imminent
foreign occupation,
and the possibility
of losing these books.
Some eight endowments
from 1551/957H to 1901/1323H
will be noted, by introducing
many points such as
endowments suppliers,
target categories of
bene ficiaries, Librarians
qualifications. The
research seeks also
to underline the socio-cultural
role which libraries
used to play according
to those endowments
texts. In conclusion
the research elaborates
on the condition of
such libraraies in the
past and the present
and presents some recommendations
for buliding and upgrading
libraries in Palestine.

Book used to occpy a
sublime posture in Arab
Civi lization. Whereas
the QurÕan was
the first book that
was published in Arabic,
we notice that writing
and publishing movement
comenced in the middle
of the first Hidjera
century. The second
century witnissed the
eminence of books and
the jotting down of
the holy qurÕan
with history, affected
by the writing of the
ProphitÕs speech.
Because of the Arabs,
love of books, reading
and education in general,
and due to their contact
with foreign cultures
that existed in the
countries conquered
by them, libraries were
disseminated all over
the countries and had

cirilization in Baghdad,
Isfahan, Cairo, Grodoba,
Fass and other Arab
countries and states.

parts of this civilization
was the palestinian

The catastrophe of some
Arab Palastinian Villagers
in the course of British
mandate was merely an
introduction to a more
agressive one, when
most of Palestinians
were subjects to expulsion
in the wake of 1948
war.
In both cases zionists
wiped out villages and
coustructed settlements
on their debris.
However, statistics
show that in the mandate
time most of the destoyed
villages were in the
northern side of palestine,
where origial owners
were obliged to leave
the lands they were
born and rised in.
Hereinafter, we provide
